Expectations vs. Reality

When we start working on a new goal or target, the reality far outweighs our expectations.  This isn’t a criticism, it’s just simple fact.

If you look at losing weight, we’ve been lulled into a false sense of security by the abundance of products promising us quick fixes, rapid weight loss and not having to put any effort in….. which is never the truth.

Think about your expectations for weight loss, and then think about the reality.
We know that anything we want to improve or get better at will take time and effort, so why do we believe the claims that certain companies are making?  Clever marketing and the rise of the Insta influencers make weight loss seem effortless.
The reality of it is very different to our expectations – you can make changes and get results, but the path to our goals is very rarely smooth.  There are bumps along the way, which can alter progress….. but don’t always think they mean failure.
Chances are you’ll see some progress after a short period of time, which is normal, but as soon as your body gets used to the changes then the progress will slow down (and sometimes grind to a stubborn halt).

If you’ve tried to lose weight in the past and it hasn’t worked, why is that?  What could you try differently this time?  I like to the think of the phrase “if you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep on getting what you’ve always got”.  Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?

To get a different outcome, something needs to change.

Believe me, I’ve been bitten by the ‘quick fix’ bug in the past, but it doesn’t take long to discover that it’s all smoke and mirrors and that the results aren’t long-term.  In last week’s blog I talked about consistency, and this is crucial for long-term change, and whatever modifications are made need time to take effect.

I’ve helped plenty of clients get a fresh perspective on their nutrition habits, with a few tweaks and additions to their current lifestyle.  If you want to look closer at your diet and adjustments you could make, I have a webinar coming up which will give you the tools to get real results and make long-term changes.  Here’s a link to the Facebook event page, where you can get details of how to book your place.
